Homemade Cherry Turnovers

I love fresh cherries!  I got a bag of cherries and decided to try to make my own turnovers.  There are several ways to do it, and I chose the easy way!  I did not make my own crust for these, but they were still delicious.

Start by removing the stems and pits from the cherries.  This was the most time consuming part of the process.

Next put all the ingredients for the filling into the pot and cook.

I used crescent rolls for the crust.  I stretched each roll just a bit and filled it with about 1 Tablespoon of filling and then rolled it over.


And then I made a little bit of icing for the top.

Homemade Cherry Turnovers
2          cups cherries—fresh, pitted
1/2      cup sugar
1/3      cup water
1 1/2   tablespoons cornstarch
1/2      teaspoon vanilla extract
1 Package of Crescent Rolls or homemade crusts
Put all the ingredients in a pot and simmer until thickened, about 5-10 minutes.  Heat the oven to 375.  Fill each turnover with about 1 Tablespoon of filling and then flip over the top of the dough and seal the sides.  Bake until golden brown.

Cherry Turnover Icing
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons milk
Mix the ingredients in a bowl.  If the icing is too thin, add more sugar.
