Picture Collage

This is a cute idea from my son’s school.  They recently made picture collages.  The children painted a canvas in whatever color they chose.  They also chose various items and pictures for the collage.  Then the teacher covered it in Modge Podge (I believe).  Cute huh?

Also they put a printed listing on the back of the canvas to show everything he included in his collage.

Kids Craft- Spring Caterpillars

This is a cute and very easy preschool or toddler craft for spring.  I saw this at my son’s school and wanted to share it.  It requires paper egg cartons (our teacher solicited the parents to gather everyone’s used ones), some Tempera paint, a marker for the eyes (or pre-made googly eyes) and pipe cleaners.

Cut the egg cartons and have the children use the Tempera paint to color them.  Draw on the eyes and help them poke in the pipe cleaners.  Super easy.  They can help with the wall display too, if you choose to have one!

You can include this activity along with lesson plans to learn about the morphing stages of butterflies.

The Traveling Bear

My son’s school has great ideas for “homework” for the toddler age group.  One night as a homework assignment, they sent home a classroom bear.  The objective was to document the activities you did for a weekend with the bear and present them to school.  This is a great idea for classes but also Home-school Co-ops and Mommy’s Playgroups.

And a bunch of other run stuff that Mommy forgot to photograph, like swim class and other fun stuff.  This activity does take a bit of work on the parent’s part to photograph and print them out, but even if that is not an option, just writing down the activities and discussing them in class is a worthwhile activity to teach the kids about how other families do things.
